SMALL TOWN, BIG STAR
Amy Clements
Country music superstar Keith Urban has returned to the small town where his career first took off 35 years ago.
The 57-year-old flew into Tamworth this morning and told 7News his return was a surreal feeling.
"It just feels incredible to get back. It's sort of like a time warp where I've spent so many years here that even when I'm away for a long time, it feels like no time has passed at all."
At 22, he won the Youngstar Maker competition in Tamworth setting him on a path to global stardom.
Urban will join all the biggest stars in Australian country music at tonight's Golden Guitar Awards.
He will be inducted into the Roll of Renown and celebrated for his lifetime achievements.
